Panjabi MC – Indian Calendar (album review)
Apart from the questionable release of "Steel Bangle Panjabi MC is back with an album of good news as "Desi" (2001). Aptly titled 'timing' India's new track has 20 albums to 79 minutes of music on one CD! This must be a first for a Bhangra album surely?
Bhangra has changed since the 90s, when Panjabi MC was at its peak. 2008 marks a new departure for Coventry man, but timing Indian be able to meet previous hits albums?
A solo tumbi kickoff "Cannot we stop "Which was sung by Jelly or Manjeetpuri Manjeet Jelhi depending on what you want to call it. It features heavily throughout the album. PMCs was Recently on the radio and describes his own style as "Dre with Dhol, Cannot Stop us feel something like that. The thing that strikes me most about it is the simplicity in production, and not in a bad and PMC has left the singer and the dhol do all the work. A very good start to the album, the simplicity production can be seen as a dropped by some, but in my view, it works perfectly. The solo halfway through dhol gear you really for the chorus.
Any Old enough to remember the A-Team will take this track. Talk about bringing back memories! PMC has actually acquired the official license this sample Punjabi soldiers "(A-Team) has once again been sung by Jelly Manjeetpuri. One thing I love the More about this song (with the exception of the excellent sampling) is the choice of words, they really go with the theme of the song. The Soormeh Punjabi soldiers or that the song does not mention giving a very "Panjabi A team" feel. The percussion on this track by a crowd of artists is phenomenal and fits perfectly to the guitar riff first overlapping singing Jelly. When I first heard PMC was sampling The A-Team, I thought it would be a trail of cheese, but it works very well …. Maybe a video crew A theme?
I first heard "Snake Charmer" about a year and a half, I did not really like it. But it was a demo early the track, I do not feel it. Now we're treated to the full version sung by Jelly finish again. PMC calls this track "her baby and you can see why. It will rip dancefloors worldwide. The bheen was fully used and the addition of extra kicks, snares and fought alongside the dhol and tumbi really perfect cohesion. Oh, and a special mention to the bass line … Do I like this track today? Hell yeah!
"Im Nin Alu (Shake It)" follows and completely changes the meaning of albums with this theme Arabic runway. Panjabi MC became fascinated by the mix East and West when he heard the sample songs on an old trail Rakim all the way back in the 80s. Having now gained official clearance he puts his personal touch on this subject. I've never really been too fond of titles in Arabic, but I that it is done well, maybe just not my cup of tea.
Manjeet Jelhi returns again to "Stop what you made (Chan Varga) "which includes rap stimuli. Remember sampled Tigerstyle Billy Jean Michael Jackon, PMC has achieved the same atmosphere that happening here, but the baseline of the traditional sample is cut short, very intelligently, I think. The films are low guitar adds dependency and I feel the rap by stimuli, the voice of Jelly coming in 1 minute and really the song. Another impressive and catchy song
I am sure Everyone was a bit "what the k & k? when they saw the words" I am a dancer Disco "on an album by Panjabi MC. Once more it feels really Panjabi MC has come a long way to legitimize Bhangra, he was able to get sample clearance with original voices of Bollywood veteran Bappi Lahiri. You know what? I love this song, I know I'm not supposed to like cheese Bollywood songs, Panjabi MC but added a funky 90's dance beat over the original works so well. I feel like I lost a little respect for themselves to enjoy this song, but if someone could remove …
Do it again yes again … .. you all know what's coming right? "Kee lagh Da" is touted by many as the anthem of the next Panjabi MC ", one thing is sure, the line of catchy hooks, tumbi the impulsive and the baseline flying get dance floors packed. Panjabi MC has the gift to give a single dhol fight alongside voice, he did it "cannot stop and it works very well on this track. I'm sure once you've heard this song you'll be singing, ohhh ki tera Lagda?!
Everything is slowed down on "Calendar of Indians (Jeon Mour)" which sees Panjabi MC sample Jeon Mour sung by Gulshan Komal. He also sees Panjabi MC first serious attempt to MC-ing in this album and all those who have followed his career PMC would know he is probably one of the best "Bhangra rappers. This is one of the most controversial songs of the year, everyone wants to know exactly who or what is speaking Panjabi MC In About? It begins in 2000 and talks about the trip until today. It is clear he is citing a number of people who have betrayed along the way, that Whether artists / friends (Kray Twinz?) and labels who tried to screw over. "2005, the industry is trying, but we still do not die," reference to its conflict with the Moviebox record during 2005. To be honest, this song can be analyzed in many ways it's a great record and how Panjabi MC has used the sample along the incremental production makes a grimey song.
Manjeet Jelhi returns on "Panjaban" and for me it is one of the weakest tracks on the album Bhangra, it simply does not catch my attention like the rest. Although the words are spirit and he has a message for you girls out there. Decent enough track.
I am not really sure how to describe this track. Surinder Shinda PMC has always been a deadly combo of the original Junglist Mirza, Part 2 throwing in some Sassi. I mean so far Mirza Part 2 remains one of the few titles that can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It is therefore prudent say that my expectations were high for "Makhni. It starts with a live set at Panjabi MC Hansraj College (New Delhi) This could be one of the best introductions that lead into a song. Makhni … I hoi? Tell you getting in the mood. The song drops into one of the baselines the dirtiest I heard on a track with Bhangra Surinder Shinda singing riding a simple but effective rhythm if ever. They say you really can not rework a classic and he beat, I know that sounds controversial, but PMC has taken Alaap from "Makhni and made this a classic version Surinder Shinda its own. Make sure you have good subs while listening to this … and increase the volume!
Panjabi MC is one of the first to really used effectively in the Bhangra reggae and its return on this point of "Jagga" sung by the talented Sabar Koti. PMC has also been sampled with this' Nuff Man Them Straight Outta Kingston, Jamaica. It's a tune RAW. The B-Line is just toxic, and that for the sample? It works perfectly. This really reminds me of the old pre-PMC legalized, the difference being that it has acquired all rights for the entire sample. Just sit back and enjoy it, not much you can do.
In line with the theme on chilled I feel as if I had been taken in the past for "Grass Roots", was released a song entitled PMC "sweet". "Holiday" In my humble opinion is one of the best songs of the album. It's just pure chill out. The solo on the tabla tumbi and simple keys. Take me on one day holiday jet-set …
"In Leh BHET Ke Roh," the theme song is a bit more relaxed it seems that the first half of the album was dedicated to the Bhangra tracks blown full the second part being those you come to the area (in a legal manner of course). This track is an interesting concept, PMC said in an interview that the singer Punjabi (Gulshan Meer) was actually the man of tea in a studio Punjab that had persuaded PMC that he could sing. The rapper (Sharpp) was someone who PMC handed a demo outside a studio in New York. I think the beauty of this track is that we will never hear of someone these guys again, which is a shame because the song in Punjabi are sick! Sometimes it's the little details that make a song.
"Boliyan" is next and can be regarded as monitoring the infamous Kori. This is not really a patch on Kori or that no effective Boliyan. The song for me are not original enough, and we have listened. The general flow of battle and the song is a bit off. Perhaps it's just me, but this song is surprisingly one of the weakest efforts.
PMC dusts off his microphone to "Thus we can, "which features a sample of Kuldip Manak classical" GT Road '. I guess this song will not appeal to Most Punjabi purists, some people might consider this to be the slaughter of a classic. I see they were coming, but the pace set by PMC is gravelly and for me the song works well.
Panjabi MC dealing with another legendary singer, this time with the late Amar Singh who was Chamkilla slaughtered in the late 80s. "Kaadha Soorma" has a very old (as might be expected) on a guitar voice filthy. Not really hit the right notes for me though.
"Chips" is next and is a mere container for all rap Panjabi MC and singer V12 soul. I know what your thinking .. oh no rap song! But this song has really grown on me, so I'm skipping the entire album just for this alone. The beat is good, just Vibe in this regard. The rapper and words of PMC is very interesting, he talks about his experience since the beginning when he rose to fame thanks to you ke Mundian Bach. "Who do you pursued these skinheads Foleshill sees CGP refer to forget that racial riots in his hometown of Coventry in the 80s. It is difficult to explain what is so good about this song, but it makes a change of honest hearing report from an Asian rapper, rather than the wannabe bullshit act that we are all subject.
"Pyar" is side and eighteen track numbers. This is another track, but Bollywood does not really suit me as a dancer disco (cannot believe I said). A Decent numbers, but this is not the first time PMC has Bollywood, with its "Chori Chori" starring ldbhd Janjua increasingly popular a few years ago.
"Night Time" is the title before last and just after the holidays, with singer Emelza on the new song. This is decent track, but every day of vacation for me.
The last song is "Aaja Sohniya (Part One)" which was sung by Kamaljeet Kaur, who also sang the boliyan advance. The first thing that strikes me is the key, is a return to Mirza Part 2, not a copy if the robot. There is also a great way to finish off this album … Following much of the second part of this album is just a song that you sit. The flute by Raj Jassal dev really adds a special touch, in a way that reminds me of Ghall Gurian. Top tune.
A mammoth 20 tracks, I assume that those who doubted Panjabi MC (you know who you are) should really be back their words. It's a hell of an album '. I am sure that some songs were cut to fit in 80 minutes Ultimately, it shows how the material Panjabi MC had aligned for this album.
Much of the album is a return to the era pre-authenticated; Punjabi MC were so successful with Grass Roots, a 100% proof and magnanimous. A lot of production can be considered simple, but none of the tracks seem out of place, everything fits like a large puzzle.
Many singles; can not stop, soldiers Panjabi, Snake Charmer, Ke Laghda, Makhni, Chan Varga, Jagga. And those are just the full blown Punjabi tracks. I have a number of personal favorites such as chips, vacation will show that if someone is able to push east and west is Panjabi MC.
The album cover indicates that the album was "on tour and you can tell. It is made to wreak havoc on dancefloors not only in Britain but worldwide. Panjabi MC is a global brand, but it is very encouraging that in a way he had Bhangra not sell short in providing an album marketed to fit with the mainstream, he released an album and made the music he did for years, and that is why this album is so good. Even the rap by Panjabi MC is great, the Indian Calendar (Jeon Mour), and we can have and Chips all with a strong lyrical content.
Calendar of Indians is a great great great album and for those who are still wondering if must buy it, or maybe you've already downloaded. Come out and support Panjabi MC, because it will be long time before coming to see Bhangra another album filled with 20 titles that each tell their own story.
I do not think I used the word once filling in this review, I really did not feel the need.
Album summarized in three words: PMC is back!
Panjabi MC – Indian Timing gets a 8.5/10
