A meeting with the Bolshoi Ballet
I have the greatest number who have read my articles can collect'm a huge fan of opera but in all sincerity, I do not pretend to be a devotee of equality of ballet, but this should not be interpreted as I do not take the joy. Maybe it's because my tastes lean more to the passion of the singers and the drama in opera rather than the grace of ballet dancer. What of the reason I'm asking a fan biggest fan of opera and ballet, but in truth I am a lover of dance, but I not become one until I Santiago, Chile met the members of the Bolshoi Ballet. It was a moment I'll never forget me because it shows all the grace of ballet, however, before this meeting with the Bolshoi I had seen them perform in Moscow and it may be where I was started to dance. My decision to visit the Soviet Union came during the fall of 1988. It was the era of perestroika, Gorbachev and glasnost, the new head of the Soviet Union had acquired a taste for many Americans as they could see some honesty him. For my part, can not pretend that my desire to visit the Soviet Union have been influenced in any way by Gorbachev that the real reason My trip was based on my desire to travel the world in search of all towns and places I had read my extensive readings of history. Of course, this has also been a time in my life when I was entertaining dreams of becoming a commercial photographer and had to mind to take pictures of Leningrad (formerly Petrograd, now St. Petersburg) and Moscow. These cities seemed ideal for this purpose, both architecturally that was so different in New York and the sense of history is enormous. After all they are two cities that were almost in center of World War II and the Russian revolutions of 1917. The first that ousted Nicolas II and the second in October (although the Russian Orthodox calendar marks today as having been in November) put the Bolsheviks in power. I even wanted to visit the Soviet Union before, but the issue had not so simple that I would have liked. Firstly because all the Soviet Union was a closed society which I need a visa, not that it was an inconvenience that I had visited many other Communist countries like Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, the GDR, and Yugoslavia. These countries also require, as I have an American visa. I can even say how it was a time in 1987 in which I as an American was needed to get a visa to enter France to rather than be given automatically entry as was the case with most European countries. The Soviet Union however was different, even from other communist countries, which must go to their embassy or consulate, naturally with my passport and two photos money to pay the visa. The Soviet Union is no need for me to have already been mentioned, but a prepaid hotel where I would stay, which essentially means I either book a hotel in the cities I wanted to go to New York before you leave or go to what is commonly called "Discover". I have not so much by my own choice took the second option to go on tour, although in truth, I would have preferred go alone. With the intension of spending Christmas and New Year's Day in the Soviet Union at the beginning that I am reserved November for a tour that includes Moscow, Kiev and Leningrad, in that order. It was while visiting these cities in the Soviet Union that I observed many things, some of which were very strange, at least in my opinion, a communist country (I have already visited several), for example, in the Soviet Union, there were shops which only accepted currency (which means a currency that could be converted outside its country of origin) and have been out of reach of Soviet citizens. Yes, passports were checked upon entering the store. It that stores like this in Poland did not exist or other communist countries I visited, but unlike the Soviet Union anyone in the country could buy what they wanted as they had the right kind of currency in the Soviet Union, where he was a Soviets not even be allowed to enter the stores, let alone make purchases of any kind. Naturally, as there were shops where Foreigners like me could get in, there were also shops in which foreigners were banned from the Soviets could only enter and again passport or other documents have been verified. I even remember how on one occasion, I met someone asked me to buy something in store for foreigners only. The Soviet Union also had other factors that made it different from all countries Communists had already visited, for example, asked again that hotels were allowed to enter as a control was established at the entrance where they were obliged to show his card to the hotel. However, this does not present much of a problem for me or for many Soviets (I refer to them as such I can not claim to have known all honesty that was Russian or any of the republics that made up many Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) who managed to get to the hotel, Despite not being a hotel guest. When the card required to enter the hotel was no problem that I been required to pay any currency, however, was more than slightly annoying that this price is more then they would have been if I had been allowed to buy drinks or other such niceties rock, I could do much more on the black market. It was not however be Hotels also wanted hard currency, not only for the cost of the room, but even for what we bought them, which is in contrast with hotels Polish it was only required to pay the room currency. He was in Moscow that I stayed in a hotel called "Cosmos" that I would add is the most exclusive at the time, but in truth the standards were lower than those I had known West. I arrived at the hotel on December 24 and on my second day of classes in Moscow after spending the first two visits, I had what might be called my first experience in the Soviet Union. Two young men who must be my age at the time (me being 21) knocked on the hotel room that I share with any member of my group of tourists. He was accompanied by another member of my tour that these two young men who came to ask if my roommate and I cared to barter trade. At first, neither my roommate nor I knew what these two men had to mind and be in a country we did not know democracy American my roommate, whose name completely escapes me and I were a little worried. It was one of these two young men who asked us if we had blue jeans or anything we cared to trade such as American cigarettes or basically nothing. For my part, felt that I had nothing that would be beneficial to them than anything I had was my camera (which I was not ready to trade for anything), a couple of packs of cigarettes (me being a smoker at the time), the clothes I brought with me (which included a pair of blue jeans gray to be honest I was a little ashamed to show, even given the condition where they were) and my tapes that included pop music. It did not take long for these two men and everyone in my group of tourists come to pick up a good deal, because the room I shared with a history teacher from Phoenix to become a national or international market black. Blue jeans have been exchanged cons Russian fur hats, caviar (which is a French word that the Russian word "Ikra") and other Russian goodies. It was inspired by the way which these two Russians or so I think they were ready to take any and everything we had that I decided to show the gray old jeans that I bought a year ago in London. Much to my surprise, they agreed to almost take them for a fur hat black but since they were old, they do not ask me to throw something more than I did as a pack of Marlboros that they accepted but still have my sense of guilt over the old jeans forced me to add a ribbon by the British group known as "Led Zeppelin". During of these operations; I noticed how people from two different countries and ways of life could trade and do business, and although the spoken English by these two gentlemen was not exactly perfect, it was understandable, what I think even in a communist system it is always possible to find contractors. I even remember how one member of my group wanted to get something in exchange for a tape that Jimmy Hendrix to know that no these two men (who had brought so many things with them to believe they had a store of all with them) had any idea who he was. Naturally, we explained that Jimmy Hendrix was a guitar player and they do the ribbon that I do not remember what they gave to her. Well Naturally, it should be understood that these young men did not receive these things for themselves, but to sell to third parties. One thing did strike my roommate at the time as curious that led him to wonder if they were staying at the hotel in which it was said by one of these two young men they were not. Then I asked how they managed to get to the hotel, for telling me that guests who showed a map of the hotel were allowed to enter is when they have said that, because their English was not bad and in fact it was not and they dressed like westerns that they could enter and it is obvious they had. Later I would meet two other young men at the hotel who also tried to do what ever business they have and from them that I really learned a lot about how people in the Soviet Union felt toward not only Americans but many things. It may sound strange to some that I do not even remember the names of these two young men, or what they looked like, but I remember almost everything that appeared between the three of us. First I went with them to Red Square instead of going with my group, After all, if I wanted to associate with other Americans, we can imagine where I would have stayed. Many things I had seen throughout I traveled in many countries, the Colosseum in Rome (now one of the seven new wonders of the world) to the Eiffel Tour, but none of these buildings or any other than I had seen elsewhere could exceed the grandeur of Red Square. The place that I have observed that day in the month fixed of December seemed so huge that I honestly was at a loss for words. It was not that the Kremlin or the buildings that surround it, like that which is hailed as the store in the world's largest toy or even Basel Cathedral was that big, but the composition created by all which was Red Square has had a solid impact on my training that I will never forget. It was fascinating to see this place and all its features as a moment gave me the impression of being in a city above the clouds. The ornaments on the buildings are such that they seemed almost unreal. I am naturally a little after recovering from my shock almost out my trusty Minolta to photograph this place and all that she understood, which in all honesty, even looked like a small city rather than a large monument. He was taking photographs of the place that I started with a wide angle lens as to capture a single blow and then goes to a zoom to the Cathedral of St. Basil's, the beauty of what to my opinion is the most under-estimated. Needless to say that my camera captured all the points of interest in Red Square, but no fascinated me as much as St. Basil which in my opinion, was the typical Russian cathedral. Naturally, everything was in Red Square can not ignore the presence of the mausoleum dedicated to Lenin, which was visited by thousands of people who would bare the cold and heat, just to see the body of a dead man. As for me personally, I had neither the time nor the inclination to stand on a line, even short like foreigners (as opposed to one for Soviet citizens) just to see a man that I think was an act of idolatry. Unsurprisingly, then by the Soviet Union having long since disappeared thanks a process of change had removed the remnants of Joseph Stalin in the presence of Lenin, not that it makes no difference to me at the time or even now elsewhere. After serving as my personal guide, they took me to a small neighborhood restaurant in Moscow, a bit like a bistro (The French word which has its roots in a Russian word meaning quick) when we had sausages and tea. This, as opposed to the hotel I discovered how life could be cheaper for someone in Moscow who had dollars or other type of money from the West in so much that I wanted to treat my guides that they had consumed only to discover they are the ones who wanted to do the same for me. At first I did not really know what to say and asked me if I could pay at least for me, but I was told it would be a good idea not to offend them by refusing his invitation. What I did accept. It was during our time together we have discovered many things about the other countries, for example, they discovered that New York has not been as dangerous a place to live, as they had been compelled to believe by the U.S. television and their own media, so I was also not excluded to find they know a lot of interesting things. First of all that the Soviets, the least people were not as anti-American that I really thought they would be and what surprised me was that, despite its popularity in America, especially after his last trip that had taken place a few weeks before, Gorbachev was not really liked in the Soviet Union by the average citizen, especially those who were not in the party. This seemed at first almost hard to believe that during his last trip to the United States (which took place on December
people were literally lining the streets by the thousands, despite the cold just to get a glimpse of him, in scenes reminiscent of "Beatlemania" at its peak. For my part I even went to the place where I knew his car would pass in the hope of obtaining photograph. Mine was, however, more than wanting to be a photographer, and adoration, this part Motivated by the success that I had same year in London, when the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's June 10, I managed to get a big bang shot in the head as she descended "The Mall", in his open car. Gorbachev was however a different matter altogether, as he was driven in a limousine private making it impossible for me to be able to get any kind of photography then another of his car. I even remembered hearing the news, how to it, while Broadway had actually driven out of his vehicle (much to my regret not being there to catch the film this historical moment) a day of extreme cold to shake the hand of some of the thousands who lined the street just to get a glimpse of him. This naturally provoked joy to many all in a panic to his security guards who were also surprised that those who found themselves shaking hands with Gorbachev. He was a case that Gorbachev had not informed her of what he would do security in advance and because of the large number of cars security have led to discover that the few seconds that the car had stopped and that Gorbachev Gorvachov was now in the midst of a crowd shaking hands with all those who ran towards him. As expected his security had to backtrack to reach him in fear that some could happen and that of course but I can not imagine what anxiety they might have passed by then. The persons There were also some protesters Soviet republics such as Armenia, which has even claimed that they felt for the first that there was a man who at least was willing to hear what they have to say. After Gorbachev understood that for most, was not liked, I asked what it was about him that most people do not like and this question, I met a response I have not really understood at the time and that was that most people did not Gorvachov simply because his personal standard of living has was much higher than their own. It was not for political or ideological reasons or something like that, but he had the luxury surround yourself in. They have mentioned how he went around the world and they could not, how it had fur coats, an American Express credit card (Which I think especially as advertising), expensive clothes, so they do not. At that time I did not see anything strange or unusual in America as in most Americans do not live and our president (Ronald Reagan at the time) and if some did not love not, it certainly was not for that reason. There have been other reasons such as the "Iran-Contra, but that was another case, but not because he made more money then they get what was and is still the case in most countries. However, it has was a case of what most people had come to accept in most countries it did not matter that their leaders have a better off financially then they were as long as their own standard is acceptable to them. But here, the people of the Soviet Union not even want to know that their leaders had more then they did even though she was the main leader. This was perhaps the explanation Soviet citizens were not allowed to enter certain shops, restaurants and hotels, where they would be exposed to what they could not afford anyway, and perhaps their financial system of equality was not really working together well. I for my own did not comment on what I heard, preferring to say nothing because I had not really understood the mentality behind the words and rather than take a fight that had been treated with this humble but cozy lunch, I asked what they thought American films. What they told me they had seen some, but many have been banned, as was the case with "Red Heat "watch, Arnold Schwarzenegger, because of a scene where the character played by Arnold (a Soviet officer) crafts a watch $ 10 for a watch with a $ 1,000 American cop, played by Jim Belushi. I was curious to see how these two young men, well aware of this stage, if they had not seen the movie but I did not ask. It was after a good meal (which was no worse than what I was getting to the hotel) in place of a good neighborhood that I took a chance and went to the apartment of one of these two young people for what they had promised me that was a Soviet military winter coat and a shirt of the national soccer team. I have not little to trade offered them U.S. dollars which they refused, however, we must return to my hotel to get like I did on me. It was when going to the hotel that I rode the subway in Moscow for the first time and was amazed at how often the trains arrived and How deep was one factor that I knew was not desirable during the Second World War because of the bombing of the city was presented by German aircraft. Upon his return to the hotel I paid the money I had promised, more a package of Life Savers in a gesture that was after their pay to my sausages and tea. Once concluded, the company's barter trade with the time being not far from one evening I decided to take a shower and get ready for a night at the ballet. The Bolshoi is like this if it could be other being in Moscow, the Bolshoi course (the word of great significance in Russian) theater. In this spirit I put my costume, I had only brought with me a beautiful Cardin (again be fashionable at the time) on top of which I put my newly acquired military coat Courtesy the Soviet Union was on the advice of our guide that I chose to wear one. He told me we were in a country were civilians especially the foreigners were not allowed to wear Soviet military, which means it's wise for me put on another dress that I made. The Bolshoi, I must say was something extraordinary, not so much drama that was granted significant but not really impressive, or at least not as much as the performance given by this wonderful group of dancers which my father and grandfather had always says so much about. Tchaikovsky "The Nutcracker" is what those in my group, so I have the privilege to see this evening and although I already knew wonderful music, I was not so much with the dance that goes with that and I looked, it seemed that was the most radiant of all arts scene in terms of its visual appearance. After the ballet, he was back at the Cosmos Hotel for a nightcap which I took at the bar, shots of vodka accompanied caviar in America was so expensive, but in the Soviet Union was literally cheaper than peanuts. Hotel has several bars, and it has been in each there were women, some of which I could imagine were there to share memories of others, then just for the money, while others went in groups to research a Westerner to offer them a drink. For "Them" I mean everyone as they came in groups if it does not interest me other then just to see that women in the Soviet Union was what I would call an excessive amount of makeup, although most of them much more attractive then the average American woman. The next came out of Kiev and it was a plane by Aeroflot. It was something I will never forget, being on the track and fell asleep in my seat during the long wait was required before takeoff, when suddenly I was awakened by the feeling of my ears are blocked by pressure. I remember having a bit shocked, thinking that we had probably spent all this time on the ground and only then the plan would off when the reality is that it is already grounded. Such a smooth takeoff and the flight was that not only had he not wake me I had not even noticed or it could be that my cold was making me very drowsy with my lack of sleep the night before. Kiev was an interesting city but maybe not as much as Moscow, but this visit including the only thing I remember was far from my hotel, I always ask the rest and ask a policeman if he could find Soviet a taxi to my surprise he did. As one who has been on making more passengers in a kind of improvisation transport, as I had known in countries like Argentina and Peru. As for the policeman, he told me bad English, how it was Armenia, a place that had suffered the effects of an earthquake the previous month, which made me tell him how I had actually donated $ 20 for a relief organization. I do not know if this man really understood me, but saying goodbye in recognition of his ego to have Was this conveyance I gave him one of my packages of cigarettes, which made him give me a small pen knife (which has not even opened) as a Fish, as he said the word "memory" and went away. With Kiev is smaller than both Leningrad and Moscow, our stay was planned for one last night, after which we would be leaving for Leningrad. I really can not say what was in me that night that I had to stay in Kiev, which I is doing what I finally did. This is for what could be classified as extremely drunk. I drink vodka and lots of it, perhaps to show that Italian-Americans like their Soviet counterparts could also hold their alcohol, but what ever it was I had sauce. In this corner I remember bending a Soviet who also attended the same thing as me, after which we started a conversation in trying to resolve who were more stupid? Me claiming that it was the Americans (who reminds me of those in my group of tourists), while the case is the Russians, but only to resolve the issue by declaring a draw between the Americans and Russians who were the most Dippy. On this night coming down with a certain degree of joy may be more Soviet comrade and I also met us break our glasses of vodka on the ground, which have attracted the attention of some police officers. The police, however, was called Militia at the time the Soviet Union, two of they did approach us and when I could not understand what they said one of them, taken off my guard with a punch in the stomach. It is by all accounts should have knocked the wind out of me. That probably would have been the effect in other circumstances, but that day, after a half bottle of vodka, I do not feel the shot that showed on my face that I did not even lean on the pain. The I reaction which almost sent the police in a shock as it was clearly on his face before I tried to hit him with my camera, after all, it was much bigger then me who is just 5'6 ". Thankfully, nothing became of the incident that the receptionist informed the police that I was a guest at the hotel and not a trader (as they figuratively) who came to trade in dollars, of course was illegal at the time. And Leningrad last leg of our journey before returning to the Soviet States. Leningrad, I must say was more interesting at least from my point of view and then to Moscow. The city itself is different, after all this had been the capital of the country during the revolutions if it was in the past, even then, as at that time, the Winter Palace was the Hermitage. With the Hermitage is one of the greatest museums in the world I could not help but spend an afternoon there by the three that I had, although we would really need more time to fully appreciate the whole museum. In Leningrad, I was fortunate to have a hotel room which, unlike that Moscow and Kiev, I did not have to share with any member of my group. This factor be advantageous, because I want to go meet two beautiful young women of Kiev by Victoria Ibanchenko names and Svetlana. With these two friends that I would spend three very lustful evenings (Two with Victoria, the one with Svetlana), thanks to whom I draw inspiration for "Svetlana Ibanchenko. Svetlana Ibanchenko be a soprano of Russian fiction my book "New York Opera Society. There was something so romantic and beautiful in both their dreams and ambitions took me like I have been the creation of this small but important character in my first book. The tragedy would also fill my stay in Leningrad that There I discovered that an American plane (Pan Am) was the victim of a bomb with all the passengers in flight over Scotland. At this time, there was little to do for me, but recognizing that it was not I who had been on this flight and continue with the time I did, which is precisely what I did. Last night I went to Leningrad I was leaving the next evening was one that I will stay with me forever. My group and I went to see the Kirov Ballet and what an experience it was. The Kirov was no less great, then the Bolshoi very different. My father told me when I asked him the difference was that the Kirov was more artistic while the Bolshoi has been more dynamic and I saw what I saw them performance of another piece by Tchaikovsky, this time "Swan Lake" and what a spectacle it was. They seemed to float in the air; almost as though they could fly and has an energy about them that let them do as they wished with their bodies with such grace that it was almost like watching angels. In regards to my last two nights, these two were spent in Victoria and who knows what would have happened to our relationship, he had not been for the "Iron Curtain" which makes it almost impossible for her to come live with me in America. I naturally tried to send an invitation, but even that was difficult because of the closed system, his country had at the time and if I have no problems As regards the money when he came to invite Victoria over the United States, yet the matter was more complicated then I've never seen as possible. It is difficult for me to say what would have happened perhaps Victoria and I have continued to marry and have children but my life would have been another but also interesting. I wish for my part, Victoria Kiev Ibanchenko the best in what ever she decided to make his life. Upon my return to New York, I naturally devoted much of my time and money trying to make Victoria in America, which, in retrospect, I can say I fell in love with and although my attempts have failed, I can honestly say that I make every effort to have with me to America. Once in New York, also with the inspiration I have been in the Soviet Union again in me, went to see The famous "Mosayeb" (Russian folk dance company), who just happened to perform at Radio City. It also as the The Bolshoi and the Kirov was a performance that left me hypnotized, as it combined the grace and music in a way that also expressed as though perhaps a more modern, which was no less impressive. As a strange coincidence, I'll add that tonight I am fell for the man who had been our guide in the Soviet Union. In fact, as my desire to have Victoria come to America and the interest in what I saw in the Soviet Union that I even started taking private lessons in Russian, which would be very useful for many Years later, in 1992 in Chile. A country that I never imagined I would have to speak Russian. He was there in Santiago one day after took pictures for a newspaper that I was in contact with saw a poster advertising an upcoming performance by the Bolshoi. By then I worked as a freelance photographer and did not really intend to see the Bolshoi, thinking it would be expensive, but I pleased that they were in town. This something to celebrate almost there had been a time in Chile, not long before and during the Pinochet's reign in which the Bolshoi and all other things of the Soviet Union have been banned. It was the same day after saw the poster I was walking in a shoe shop where there was a couple, a woman whose body has given Slim a result it must have been a dancer with a man who had what I classify as a sport but not building muscle. Frankly, neither my attention until I heard speak Russian and that's when my mind to put the two together. The Bolshoi were in town, this woman was very thin when he spoke Russian was then that I decided to introduce myself, which I did using the Russian scientist in Poland that I and my lessons private. I managed to get their names, his being Semizorowa Nina (I later discovered was one of the biggest stars of the Bolshoi Their principal attraction of this ride) and his being the one I forgot but it was the husband of Nina. Naturally, I am a photographer at the time he fact that I had my camera I used to get a quick overview of both. I am ignorant about the ballet at the time did not know that Nina was such a big star of the Bolshoi and it was not his humble personality gave away either as she and her husband were among the most modest person I had ever met. This in spite of or perhaps because both of them were stars of the Bolshoi probably the best ballet company in the world, where only the best are allowed. The Bolshoi ballet is that the NBA basketball or the "Series A "is to football, basically a collection of the best talent in the world. As a note, I might add that the English actress named Joyce Frankenberg (more later known under the name Jane Seymour, or "Dr. Quinn" on the TV series of the same name) was once admitted to the Bolshoi, where she was involved of a wound in a position to provide performing as a dancer. After chatting with Nina and her husband Semizorowa I quickly developed and the picture she taken to the hotel where I knew they were staying and that's where I met the remaining members of the Bolshoi who had made the trip to Chile. There was something about them that I have to admit the facts among the most interesting people to watch not only dance but to talk to and I told them one of their managers called me the next day, not only to watch them, but the practice of taking photos too. It was that following day I became a fan of ballet, it might be to know and be able to ask them questions and seeing the dedication they have put in for what they did that made me appreciate the ballet all the more. I took a photograph of many who find themselves some newspapers in Chile but in truth, I do not remember who, but what stuck in my mind most was the friendships I made with Members of the Bolshoi ballet dancer with a very special young twenty years under the name of Anna Petrova. Thanks to one of their entourage that she asked if I wanted to take his picture and send it to her which I naturally agreed to do. Anna was a shy girl from Leningrad who spoke fairly good English at least hold a conversation that is what we did and how happy he was as I not only took pictures (in using a set of role in his film), but learning about it. She is the one who could not have exceeded the 5 feet per lot and whose weight would not have been more than 100 pounds, but in this body has the strength of a man who could perform the movements of the incredible grace that ballet requires. Regarding our conversation was concerned, at least at our first meeting, they mainly centered around ballet with his question to me Many who are asking what it felt was the difference between the Bolshoi and the Kirov with his saying that it was difficult to put into words to However, it was then that I wanted to try my father's theory that she admitted that there is some truth in. I Anna also asked what she views on Mosayeb which it claims to be good but not as good as it was 20 years ago. Much have been said between Anna and myself that day in a conversation that I found most fascinating, but the only reply she gave me this who stood out in my mind the most is when I asked her what she thought of American Ballet. That was my question who gave his reply and I will never forget that I quote "America, the French ballet and British are very strong and good, but we are the best. " A statement that would be difficult to challenge prompted my return, as is the "dream team" basketball. "My comment is Indeed, because this was the year when Jordan, Bird, Magic Johnson, Carl Malone and many others showed their incredible talents in games Barcelona Olympics as the dream team "legendary". That day in the auditorium who was appointed the Bolshoi, I also had to talk to other members of the Bolshoi, one of whom is a friend of Anna who said he had been approached by several American ballet companies more money, but feared to move, since he might have heard rightly or wrongly, many American ballet companies have gone bankrupt. However, it was considering the offer made to him by the Ballet Geoffrey but was not sure yet. Other things that young ballet dancer told me he really understood not to watch his diet as Some of the dancers and he felt that there were dancers in the Bolshoi had not so much because of their ability to dance, but their relations within the Party. Of course, I could not say anything about that comment, I know nothing in regards, but I was surprised at his comment, not so much what he had said, but he had all that I could imagine it was a time not so long ago where we could be in big trouble for saying less. The day was Great, but the night would not unless I went to see the Bolshoi Ballet the action of the scene of many scenes that included ballet "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker" Tchaikovsky and others such as "Giselle" by Adams. I remember especially the latter, since it is who has selected my new friend (who, unfortunately, I lost contact with) Anna Petrova in the lead role and what a performance it has given. In saying this, but I'm not being a connoisseur of the ballet as I am other things like football or singing or acting; making difficult for me to give an impartial view of his performance that night, but in my eyes, she was magnificent in the role it has played. She danced as a bubble bath, not even bouncing on the stage, but in the air as she loved all those present, one of them being the president of Chile in the period; Patricio Aylwin. For me not only Anna but all members of the Bolshoi danced not as if we danced to the music who played for them, but as if their dance was the creation of music, such was the coordination between the music and movements that they seemed were one and the same. As if it were an image that has been established by the music and how it has been great this evening that I could see something that will last with me until the end of my days and all, not only because of this show, but I saw the bond of friendship had been created. The next day I went with the Holiday Inn to see off the members of the Bolshoi and especially my friend Anna Petrova I agreed to meet at a certain time only to discover that she and the rest of the members of the Bolshoi, were not return from a lengthy interview they gave to the Chilean press that lasted more than two hours. For cons, I do not mind waiting as it was while I was doing when I met a man from Chile who was one of those responsible for bringing the Bolshoi Chile. As one might expect the Bolshoi spoke (in Spanish) and how they had been allowed to come now that Pinochet in Chile was no longer president. Freedom of expression, however, did not come completely as the government, influenced by the church Catholic forbade the British rock band "Iron Maiden" to play in Santiago on their 1992 tour of South America. Once my friend Anna returned the hotel of our time was limited given his farewell to late arrival (where she apologized for) and the fact that it and the rest of the Bolshoi had little time to get to their flight time. Anna and I went for a walk around the hotel which must have lasted approximately 15 minutes in which we have not talked about the dance, but our life and musical taste, her suitor as Elvis Presley outside Tchaikovsky me claiming to be found outside of Iron Maiden's opera and classical music. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side I would have liked to take her to a nice place for lunch offered, not so much because of my physical attraction towards her, but my desire to enjoy his company, but it was not to be so we had to limit ourselves to exchange addresses, so that I can send him the photos I taken of her. For my part, he bought a flower from a street vendor as a sign of friendly little time but we have spent together. I would go to him send photos, but honestly, I'm not sure she has received them as I got no response from his, but it is okay so I was really delighted with not only my encounter with the Bolshoi, but with Anna Petrova.
